About St Therese
Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin was born in 1873. After many struggles, she became a Discalced Carmelite (OCD) nun, and developed the "Little Way" - an approach to holiness based on smallness.She is officially known as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, and popular names for her include "The Little Flower of Jesus" or simply "The Little Flower". She became an influential model of holiness because of the
"simplicity and practicality of her approach to the spiritual life"."The Story of a Soul
" is a collection of her autobiographical manuscripts, which was published after her death in 1897, and it made her one of the most popular saints of the 20th century.Because she lived so recently, many of the hymns directly about Therese are still copyright - but there are some older (and so public domain) hymns that reflect themes from her life. There are also a few hymns in popular use, for which the author is unknown.
