This is a selection of hymns for the feast of Saint Andrew, which celebrates Jesus' calling of Andrew as recorded in Matthew 4:18-20 and Mark 1:16 -18.
The hymn suggestions below are either directly about Andrew, or based on the themes from his lift and ministry.
As Simon-Peter's brother, he is regarded as the first apostles - and so his feast is close to the start of Advent. After Jesus death and resurrection, Andrew is believed to have evangelised in Georgia, Roumania and the Ukraine, and to have been ship-wrecked and performed a miracle in Cyprus.
Because of his strong association with Scotland, the Scottish flag and also the Union Flag includes St Andrew's saltire cross.
Psalm 19:1-6 - The judgments of the Lord are true, and all of them are just / The law of the Lord is perfect / The precepts of the LORD are right / The fear of the Lord is pure /
Gospel: Matthew 4:18-22 - Jesus calls the fishermen, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother... “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”
